Chancellor’s Director, Grant Farnell asks you to join us in giving a warm welcome to the latest member of the Chancellor team:-

“I am the newest recruit to the Chancellor team and feel that I have settled in well to what I hope will be a happy and lengthy association with the company, but when I was asked to put a bit of a pen portrait together to provide some information for the website and an article for Chancellor’s Enews I wasn’t quite sure how to start, but here goes, I had a really good family upbringing and I am very close to my parents and my younger brother and sister, family is really important to me. When I left school which was littered with incidents where I was probably a little more rebellious than I should have been, I went to off University in Birmingham to study sociology, I found this really interesting, learning about people and the way that they interact with the world and I worked reasonably hard, amongst enjoying life at University and was disappointed to miss out on a 2.1 by just four marks. I left university, like many without a clear path in front of me and took a job, which was initially for 3 weeks marking exams for students that turned into an enjoyable 18 months. I met my partner Chris whilst there and he went on to work as an investment manager and my role and Chris’s choice of career introduced me to Financial Services. I joined a company that provided Self Invested Personal Pensions and have now worked within the sector for the last 7 years more latterly working for a financial advice firm.

Away from work I am really interested in helping young people and in particular recognising the issues a significant minority have with mental health. This has allowed me to combine one of my other passions which is travelling, having worked on a project looking after street children in Morocco. Closer to home I am a qualified youth leader and support two local youth groups and continue to take an active interest in my local community. As I mentioned, I do love to travel and probably my most memorable trip was 5 weeks travelling around Thailand, the culture, the people, the food were a real life experience I will never forget. My hobbies now are a little more down to earth, I like a glass of wine, with my partner Chris, we both enjoy wine tasting events and are keen to learn about the places that the wines come from, hopefully we will be able to visit some of them on future holidays. I am also keen on music and have been to a number of festivals, including Glastonbury, although I think if I were to go now that I am a little older I would be perhaps looking at something a little more in line with glamping than the basic facilities that we put up with at the time, but I suppose that is part of the experience!! I am looking forward to being part of the Chancellor team and getting to know everyone a little better.”
