Discover Fortunes

By Chancellor

Last month, Ed Painter, one of Chancellor’s Chartered Financial Planners delivered what is known as a Discover Fortunes session at Poynton High School in Cheshire.

“Discover Fortunes” is a financial education programme designed by Chancellor’s professional body The Personal Finance Society to help young people as they start their journey to adulthood and begin their careers.

The programme is aimed to engage students who are between 15 and 18 years old and a typical session consists of a short introduction about the role of a financial planner followed by a board game which is played in teams. This is based around five different people with different financial planning needs.

These sessions help students to:-

  • Learn more about savings, pensions and investments
  • Develop team work, communication and problem solving skills

Chancellor’s Dave Heaton and Ed recently trained as Personal Finance Society’s Education Champions which enable them to deliver the sessions. The Personal Finance Society’s aim is to establish links with every secondary school and college of further education in the country.

After the session Ed felt that “It was great to meet all the kids. I was really impressed by their engagement and how much they picked up. There are definitely some future financial planners out there!”
