From Bolton to Ulaanbaatar — Chancellor goes the extra mile for charity
We’ve got several new and longstanding relationships with charities that make a difference to people’s lives in Bolton and beyond.
And because we believe that contributing to charity is the right thing to do, we don’t make a song and dance about it (unless we’re running a sponsored stage-show!).
That said, bringing your attention to some of the great causes we support can’t do any harm and might motivate you to ramp up your own community contribution.
Here’s how we go the extra mile for charity.
Octagon Theatre
If you love the energy of live theatre productions, Octagon Theatre Bolton always has a programme that’s all killer and no filler.
But we’re particularly proud to have recently become corporate supporters because of the exciting ways Octagon works with youth theatre and community groups to ensure theatre’s inclusive and empower people with skills that translate to all aspects of life.
Projects like Octagon Bridges, Octagon Academy and the Willows Youth Theatre integrate the organisation intimately with the community, and we’re thrilled to be involved.
Bolton Lads & Girls Club
Bolton Lads & Girls Club has been providing young people with a safe environment to spend their spare time, participate in sports and develop useful skills since 1889.
And since joining us in 2009, Chartered Financial Planner David Heaton has completed three successful stints in their mentoring project — offering an understanding ear and valuable guidance and encouragement to young people experiencing difficulties in school or at home.
As a patron of the club, our relationship is well-established and we look forward to being of service to them for many years to come.
Wigan & Leigh Hospice
As well as fundraising and partnerships, we also provide bespoke financial management advice for charities and third sector organisations.
We’ve run seminars providing local charities with valuable advice on raising funds effectively and worked directly with clients like Wigan & Leigh Hospice:

Rallying to the cause
As well as our corporate partnerships, we’ve raised funds informally for causes like Meningitis Now, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance over the years with impromptu activities — while our financial planner Ed Painter is a past chairman of Manchester Round Table.
But when it comes to intrepid fundraising, few of us can compete with our steel-nerved colleague Sam Farnell, who completed the 10,000-mile Mongol Rally with his brother in a battle-scarred VW Polo.
So from Greater Manchester to Outer Mongolia, we always go the extra mile for charity!
